CD PROJEKT Red has sold the DRM-free games digital distribution platform, GOG, for 90.7 million Polish zlotys (approximately $25 million USD) to the co-founder of both parties.

Michał Kiciński, who now owns 100 per cent of the shares in GOG and was formerly part of the CD PROJEKT Group, co-founded GOG in 2008 and was one of the largest stakeholders of the company before the purchase.

The acquisition was fully financed through committed funds secured at closing with a distribution agreement between CD PROJEKT Red and GOG regarding the future releases of titles from the developer and further cooperation.

Michał Kiciński stated in a press release when GOG was founded, himself and Marcin Iwiński had a vision of what they wanted the site to be: to bring classic games back to players and ensure that once you buy a game, it truly belongs to you — forever.

“CD PROJEKT and GOG share the same roots and values: freedom, independence, and a genuine sense of ownership,” Kiciński said.

“I believe that CD PROJEKT, with its exceptional AAA games, will stand, as always, behind the GOG offering—making GOG the best place on the planet to purchase The Witcher and Cyberpunk games, both existing titles and the new ones we all anticipate so much.

“Beyond preserving classics, GOG has always sought out new games with a retro spirit.”

Michał Kiciński also teased his involvement in the development of a few games which will appear on GOG in 2026.

Joint CEO of CD PROJEKT, Michał Nowakowski, commented on the new acquisition, referencing the developer’s full focus on an ambitious development roadmap and expansion of their franchises with new high-quality products.

“For a long time now, GOG has been operating independently,” he said via press release.

“Now it’s going into very good hands—we are convinced that with the support of Michał Kiciński, one of GOG’s co-founders, its future will be full of great projects and successes.

“We would like to thank the GOG team for years of fruitful cooperation and wish them all the best. And to the GOG community, I say ‘see you around’, because our upcoming releases will naturally be available on GOG as well,” he added.”

GOG has worked within the CD PROJEKT Group for over 17 years and has also closely cooperated with the development team to deliver their titles.
