British game studio, Jagex are celebrating the 25th anniversary of their iconic online RPG franchise, RuneScape with updates to the game, brand-new merchandise and a sponsored mentorship.

The new programme titled, RS25 will focus on player-first updates: support systems, and modernised infrastructure for new content powered by the largest annual investment into the game to date.

CEO of Jagex, Jon Bellamy commented how incredible it is to think a quarter century has passed since RuneScape’s beginnings as a Java-based browser game.

“Today we’re speaking to the largest and most active RuneScape community in our history, and this milestone is as much theirs as it is ours.”

“RS25 is more than a celebration of where we’ve come from, it’s a statement of where we’re going.

“We’re investing in our games, the player experience, our technology, and our teams to ensure RuneScape and its worlds continue to inspire and connect millions for decades to come.”

Merchandise celebrating the milestone have also been announced with: a deluxe 5-disc vinyl of fan favourite tracks from the franchise, a Lumbridge Castle Miniature Brick Set from partner Youtooz, containing over 3500 pieces, and more available to pre-order.

Jagex have also announced a roadmap for the game including the return of RuneFest on October 3rd/4th at the Birmingham NEC, and Deadman All-Stars Live on June 20th at the Rosemont Theatre in Chicago.

Publisher Creative Industries Minister, Ian Murray stated in a press release Jagex have been at the forefront of the video game industry, demonstrating how British studios can produce iconic, international hits like RuneScape.

“The government is committed to ensuring the continued success of our world-class video game sector and I am excited to see how Jagex continues to innovate, inspire, and build worlds alongside its global community.” 

Later in 2026, Jagex will be launching their first-ever mentorship programme designed to assist the next generation of game developers and storytellers, titled RS25: Future Talent Pathway.

The programme, in partnership with UK charity Into Games will pool together resources and professional expertise in a mission to inspire innovation and discovery in the videogame industry around the world.
