Emergency services were called to the Rockstar North head office in Edinburgh, Scotland, after reports of an explosion this morning.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service arrived at the property to deal with structural damage caused by the incident, with no reports of casualties, said the spokesperson.

Rockstar North, and their additional offices, are one of the largest videogame companies in the UK, known for creating the controversial Grand Theft Auto franchise.

The development of the upcoming instalment, Grand Theft Auto VI, has not been affected by this morning’s incident.

The explosion and fire alarm were caused by a boiler malfunction, and the head office is now open and operational, a Rockstar North representative said.

“Many thanks to those that reached out with concern, and also to the police and fire crews who were on scene quickly to assess the situation,” he said.

Rockstar has had an eventful start to the year, as the company is in hot water for letting go of staff, which the IWGB Game Workers claim was an act of union-busting.

The Game Workers’ branch of the International Workers Union of Great Britain has taken legal action against the video game company, representing over 30 dismissed employees.

Last week, a Glasgow Employment Tribunal judge rejected the union’s request for interim relief.
